About us
PramaLife is a charity (registered charity number 1172716) with the vision of
“A world where no-one is unfairly disadvantaged or excluded, because of age or infirmity and where every person can enjoy life as they age.”
PramaLife grew from PramaCare, a charity providing quality home care in Dorset since 1982.
PramaLife has developed a network of support groups and community-based activities for older people and carers, providing a choice of support for people, close to their homes, so that they can continue to live independent and fulfilling lives. We provide 55 support groups for over 1000 people monthly. These range from social activities to specific help for carers and/or people living with dementia.
We are raising funds to support our network of 17 support groups for people with dementia and their carers across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and East Dorset. In our groups, we use activities which prompt memory and sensory stimulation. We have developed our network to include two groups focusing on Sporting Memories and two specifically focusing on Music (including a Community Choir) to broaden the range of people we support.
The Memory Lane groups are led by trained staff members supported by volunteers; we provide as much one to one support as possible. We do this because many of the people attending these groups have been greatly affected by their dementia. Many carers participate in delivering the sessions. The groups also provide carers with much needed respite so that they can focus on themselves. Many carers become volunteers because of the value that the groups provide them and their cared fors.
Dementia profoundly affects the health and well-being of the person experiencing it and their carer, isolating them from support, and affecting every area of their day to day life. A person’s behaviour can change affecting their relationship with their family/friends and carers can neglect themselves.
It is essential that we are there to help and support them during this stage of their lives.
Thank you for your anticipated support.
