My Story

My story:

My name is Sarah Balderson and I am running the Virtual London Marathon for Dementia at Spadework.

Spadework is a charity that enables people to be more independent, feel less isolated and live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.

The charity is based in Offham, near West Malling and Kings Hill, Kent.  It has a wonderful five acre site with a farm shop, garden centre and café.

Spadework provide services to adults with learning and other disabilities, people experiencing problems with their mental health and those living with early stage and young-onset dementia.

I am running the London Marathon to support the work they do with people living with dementia, because it is a cause very close to my heart. My dear mum was diagnosed with early stage vascular dementia in 2013 and very sadly passed away in 2020.  My mum was and always will be my absolute hero and would be so proud of me for taking on this challenge.  I have never done an event like this before, but when I saw how strong my dear mum was, never complaining and always cheerful, it drives me on and keeps me focused on completing this challenge.

I would really appreciate any help in raising much needed funds for this worthy cause, helping Spadework deliver much needed help and support for those living with dementia and their families.  Whether you are able to donate to support me, to support Spadework or this story makes you aware of Spadework and you go and check them out, the wider reach will increase awareness of this fantastic charity.

Thank you so much. This is for you mum.
